Story Untold | |
After their meeting with King Thranduil, Legolas took Lómadia to his part of the palace, where they sat in silence.
'What do you think of Mirkwood, now your back?' Legolas asked breaking the long silence.
'It's how I remember it. The perfect place to be. I'm so glad your father let me stay.'
'I told you he was understanding.'
'I know.' Lómadia paused. 'I'll miss you Legolas.'
'And I you. I wont be able to stop thinking about you.'
Lómadia looked right into the depth of Legolas' eyes. 'Promise me, you'll return. When the ring is destroyed.' The concern and sadness in her eyes made Legolas' heart bleed.
'What ever happens, I promise I'll be back. Then we can be together, nothing will tear us apart.' Legolas then kissed Lómadia passionately, holding her tightly, professing his love for her. Though he wanted to, he ignored the temptation to take the kiss further. 'When you feel lonely, or unhappy,' he whispered. 'Hold the pendant I gave you, and think of me. Where ever I am, I'll always be with you, in here.' He placed a hand over her heart, then his other hand other his heart.
Nothing else was said that night between the two elves. Legolas was due to leave the next morning, to rejoin the fellowship. Even though it was Lómadia who made him promise to help Frodo, she had no idea how she would cope without him. She had no friends in Mirkwood apart from Todia and Aen.
While Legolas slept, he had his arms wrapped around her waist, breathing gently on the back of her neck. Silent tears rolled down Lómadia's cheeks, onto the pillow. Nobody could ever possible know how much she would miss Legolas. What if she never saw him again? What if battle claimed his life? How would she carry on?
All these questions raced through her mind, preventing sleep, encouraging more tears to spring forth. The hurt in her life seemed to disappear when Legolas was around, her mind was cleared of bad memories.

'I fear for the life of Lómadia.' The king spoke to Todia, who stood before him, sadness in her eyes.
'She is in danger, where ever she goes. They will find her, she cannot hide. Deep down, she knows this, my Lord.'
'My son cares for her, therefore I will protect her with my life.' King Thranduil placed a hand across his heart. 'Lómadia's father may be on the dark side. I know for a fact that she is not, and will not join him.'
'I agree with you sir. I will keep an I on her. I am determined to give her my friendship. Not only because a feel sorry for her, on the journey from Lothlorien, she showed leadership qualities, loyalty and hope. Already, I think highly for her.' Todia said, with great determination in the voice.
'Then I am appointing you, to be her carer, at least until she has settled down. Show her around, ' The king placed a hand on Todia's shoulder. 'make her feel at home here.'
'Yes, my Lord, thank-you.' Todia bowed out of the room and sighed. Back in Caras Galadhon, she had cared for many elves. That was her job. Here, she knew her way around, the good and bad places. Lómadia would like to see the prince's special place, where he had first met Todia. The voyage from Lothlorien to Mirkwood was torture for her. Ever since she had laid her eyes on Legolas, she had had strong feelings for him. They had ignored each other for a long time now, obviously the past was still on Legolas' mind. He still hadn't forgiven her, but she hadn't forgiven him either. 'Oh well,' She had said to herself. 'I just hope Lómadia wont make the same mistake I did.'
Todia walked through the gardens, the only light from the stars above. All her thoughts were directed to the one thing she had loved for nearly all her life. Legolas.
A smile spread across her lips as she heard the soft neighing her horse, Tarran. The grey stallion stood proudly by the fence of the paddock. Todia stroked the horses neck, whispering in elvish to him.
'That's a nice horse.' Legolas' voice came from behind here.
'Where's Lómadia?' Todia spoke without turning.
'She's sleeping. I thought I might find you here, I always used to. What's his name?'
'Tarran. Fast and loyal to me.'
'He's very handsome.' Legolas ducked under the fence and ran his hand along Tarran's back. Todia watched him closely, running her eyes over the body of an old friend.
'I'm glad you think so.' Todia dais shortly, diverting her eyes back to Tarran. 'You do love her, don't you?'
'What?' the question caught Legolas off guard. 'Oh. Of course I love her. More then anything. I'll miss her so much when I leave tomorrow.'
'I'll look after her, you father asked me to.'
'In that case, she is in good hands.' Legolas smiled at Todia, she didn't return the smile. 'Remember when we went riding? All those years ago, all day, along the paths of Mirkwood.'
'How could I forget?'
'Why do you speak so angrily to me?' A confused look spread across Legolas' face.
'How else would you expect me to speak to you?'
'I have forgiven you, Todia. I thought you might have forgiven me by now? It was years ago.'
'I thought you loved me, Legolas!' Todia fought back tears as she turned away from Legolas' gaze.
'I did. You could say it was all your fault.'
'How do you work that out?' Todia cried, spinning round and staring angrily at Legolas.
'You went away, I was feeling sorry for myself. Your sister was just there to comfort me. I never meant for anything to happen.'
'Does Lómadia know? About what we were?' Legolas shook his head slowly. 'Are you going to tell her?'
'No. She doesn't need to know. She has enough to worry about.'
'You had better not hurt her, Legolas. All the hurt and pain she has suffered through her life, she doesn't need that from the one she adores as well. I know what she thinks of you.'
'What?'
'You're the only good thing in her life. And you're the only one who has her heart. Don't throw that away, don't take it for granted. Trust me, you won't find better then her, where ever you look.'
'I will never do anything to her. She is too close to me.'
'Sure.' Todia walked away, leaving Legolas with the horses.
Lómadia awoke to find herself alone in Legolas' room. Out of his window, she saw the tops of the trees of Mirkwood, her new home. A trumpet sounded, signalling the start of the day. Suddenly the door flew open, making her jump.
'Legolas! You scared me.'
'I'm sorry. I'm leaving soon.' Legolas helped Lómadia to stand up and smiled. He hugged her to him, gently rubbing her back. 'I'm really going to miss you.'
'You know I'll miss you.'
'I know.' The two elves then shared a long deep kiss. 'How am I going to cope without you?' Legolas whispered, running his finger along the tear pendant. 'I love you.' There came a knock at the door and Todia walked in, smiling.
'Your horse is ready, my Lord.' She said, looking straight at Legolas, a fake smile on her lips.
'Thank you.' Legolas looked at Lómadia, smiling weakly. He took hold of her hand and followed Todia out into the courtyard towards the gates. King Thranduil stood tall by the proud Bay mare.
'Ah! There you are my son. It is time.'
'Yes father.' Legolas turned to Lómadia and took her in his arms. Sadness swept through him as he held his love, for possibly the last time. 'Remember.' He whispered as he realised her. She nodded as he jumped onto his horse.
'Be careful, Legolas. You have a lovely girl waiting here in Mirkwood for you to returned.' He king looked at Lómadia and her cheeks burned. 'Don't leave her.'
'I won't. care good care of her father.' Legolas gave Lómadia a concerned look, as a tear rolled down her cheek. 'I love you.' He rode out of the gates at a very fast speed.
'I love you!' Lómadia shouted after him. Though she tried not to cry, her tears sprung forward, Todia placed her arm around Lómadia's shoulder, trying to comfort her.
'He'll come back, Lómadia. He always does. Come, I want to show you around.'
Todia took Lómadia all around the Elven Kings city. To the horse paddock, around the borders of the city, even up the hill where they could see all around, where Lómadia could see Lake town and her old home, Esgaroth.
With Todia around, Lómadia began to feel at home, it wasn't so bad without Legolas. Even though she missed him, more then anything, she didn't show it. Todia became her best friend, they did everything together, like riding, walking, talking and eating. They often spoke of Lómadia's time with the fellowship. How she came to join them, and how she had got to know each member.
Lómadia trusted Todia, and told her everything. Her biggest secrets, what it was like to have her father, and how she felt. Todia listened while she spoke, and she didn't ask questions. Most of all, Todia kept everything said between her and Lómadia a secret.
* * * * *
For the first few weeks in Mirkwood, Lómadia spent her days with Todia, and her nights in her room, keeping herself to herself. She had requested not to be disturbed in the evenings. For 16 days, her wish has been granted, nobody came to her door. However, on her 17th night, something changed. The world around her seemed dull and cold. She felt the aura of a long lost friend. She was pondering on the sensation, when there came a gentle knock at her door.
'Come in.' The door opened slowly and Todia walked in, her face pale. 'Todia? What's the matter?'
'Erm….there's someone to see you, in the kings hall.'
'Legolas?' Lómadia thought it to be bad news.
'No, Lómadia. I don't think you're going to like it. Do you want me to come with you?' Todia asked kindly.
'Yes, please.' The two set off towards the kings hall. Where Lómadia felt herself grow weak, the aura grew stronger, until it was so strong that she had to clench her fists to stop herself from screaming. Both took a deep breath and walked into the kings hall. Thranduil sat in his throne, an angry look on his face, in front of him, a man knelt. He had short blonde hair, his head was bowed and his hands were tied tightly behind his back.
'My Lord?' Lómadia stepped forwards, but stopped as the mans head whipped round to look at her. She gasped and backed away, fear gripped her, her heart thumped loudly in her chest and her knees grew weak. 'No.' she whispered, shaking her head. 'This isn't real, it's a dream. No, a nightmare.'
